Rules & Netiquette

Please read the rules and netiquette information very carefully before participating on Wish Upon A Hero. Many of the rules have been established to protect the members and the integrity of the site. The rules and netiquette are divided into four categories: Wish Netiquette, Rules About Wishing, Rules About Offering to Grant, and Technical Rules. Disobeying these rules may result in account suspension or membership termination. Wish Upon A Hero has the authority to change or amend these rules and can remove any wish, offer, comment or any content that they feel is not appropriate at anytime without notice. WISH NETIQUETTE

  1. THIS IS NOT AN OPINION SITE: This is a site for helping only. No one can judge the Wish, the Wisher or the Hero.
  2. NEGATIVITY IS NOT ALLOWED: This site is for positive reinforcement and support. All negative wishes and comments will be deleted. If you don't have something nice to say, then don't say anything at all.
  3. SPAM IS NOT ALLOWED: Do not private message members directly asking them for help, to view your wish, to sign up for something or to visit another site. These are all forms of spam. The same goes for repeat posting in the forums and in the wish comment areas.
  4. NO TATTLETALES: Please do not post comments stating the rules on someone's wish. It is considered poor etiquette. Instead, send that person a polite private message or contact one of the admin. Many members are new and their actions are unintentional.
  5. DON'T BE GREEDY: We realize that everyone has a bunch of wishes that they need granted, but please don't make a single wish containing a wide range of items. It will almost guarantee that nothing or very little will be granted. Make a single true wish from your heart and be honest with as much detail as possible. That will make it easier for your hero to find you. Wishes do come true!
  6. THANK YOU: After you receive your granted wish, thank your hero in a Private Message, it's common courtesy and common sense.

RULES ABOUT WISHING

  1. TRUE WISHES ONLY: We do not allow wishes that are created for: solicitation, spamming, selling, voting, advertising or links to website for personal gain or commercial reasons. We do not allow wishes that are hateful, negative, politically based or of religious nature. We do not allow wishes that ask for shipping funds or postage stamps. NOTE: The stamps drop down category was meant for stamp collectors.
  2. NO TOP POSTING: Do not use all 3 wishes for the same thing. It complicates the wish granting process. Do not remove and repost your wish to secure a front page spot. ONLY If your wish is over 30 days old and no one has offered to grant it may you repost it.
  3. NO WISH LINKING: We do not allow wishes that ask members to view any other wishes. Members cannot wish for the same things for the same person if there is already a wish up for it.
  4. NO ILLEGAL COPIES: We do not allow wishes that involved duplication of copyrighted material. It is also illegal to grant a wish using duplicated copyrighted material. This includes movies, music, books and software. We do not allow offers of food stamps or prescription medication. We do not allow wishes for lottery tickets due to a Federal law prohibits the mailing of lottery tickets.
  5. NO CONTESTS, NO RAFFLES, NO GIVEAWAYS: The Wish System was not programmed to handle contests, raffles and giveaways (or gift exchanges) by members. Only Wish Upon A Hero or the Wish Upon A Hero Foundation can use the site for these uses.
  6. KEEP IT CLEAN: We do not allow content that contains profanity, vulgarity, rants, sexual nature or x-rated topics (this includes photos and videos). We do not allow wishes that request financial support for people who have been convicted or accused of ANY crime, including but not limited to: tickets, bail money, fines, and attorney fees. Also, due to legal privacy issues, we do not allow wishes for letters, cards or support of current convicted felons or inmates. Wishes and comments of inappropriate nature will be removed immediately without warning. Many schools, organizations and churches adopt wishes throughout the year and we do not want to deter them from using our site.
  7. NO SHARING ACCOUNTS: We recommend that everyone use their own personal Paypal accounts. If someone is sharing or using another member's money exchange account, then this information must be announced in the wish area. Any attempts to conceal this information will be perceived as scamming.
  8. NO RESELLING: If you are caught reselling an item that you have received from a wish being granted you will be banned from the site. Wish Upon A Hero is created for direct needs and not intended as a way to make money by selling wished for items. This includes "Circular Giving", which consist of making a wish for funds and then granting a wish with funds.
  9. NO WISHING FOR PAST OR PRESENT MEMBERS: You can make a wish for people who are NOT members on wishuponahero.com. If someone is or was a member then you cannot make a wish for money or item donations for them. We have had too many complaints of wishers collecting money for other members and not giving it to them. However, you may still make a Wish from the Heart for other active members. Making a wish for a banned or suspended member will be recognized as an act of rebellion and will result in member privileges being revoked.

RULES ABOUT OFFERING TO GRANT

  1. If you cannot afford shipping and handling, then do not offer to grant the wish. This includes stamps.
  2. If the wisher needs to join or sign-up to another site to receive money, then do not offer to grant the wish.
  3. If the wisher is asking for financial donations and you can only offer prayers, cards, or advice, then do not offer to grant the wish. You can still show your support and help by using the comments section.
  4. If you do not have the financial ability or the item currently available to grant a wish, then do not offer to grant the wish. Someone else may be ready to grant the same wish but won't because they think the wish has an active offer on it. Add the wish to your favorites to track its progress and possibly grant it in the future.
  5. Due to processing fees we require all monetary donations to be more than one dollar. Offers for less than a dollar will be moved to the comments section of the wish.
  6. Your offer to grant a wish means you will ship the promised item(s) within a week period. Otherwise please save the wish in your favorites or enter your intent in the comments section until such a time as when you can fulfill your offer.
  7. Card Heroes: We have created a separate category for the following items: cards, coupons, product codes or points, e-mails, letters, penpals, recipes, stickers, and stick-on tattoos. Do not grant a wish with any of those items if the wish is NOT in the card category. You can post intentions in the comments to send those items and private message the member for an address. Card Hero offers on NON-card wishes will be moved to the comment section.
  8. Do not grant wishes with items or money that you received from your own wish. This activity is considered poor etiquette and will result in the loss of member wishing privileges.

TECHNICAL RULES

  1. ONE ACCOUNT PER PERSON: Each individual is allowed only one Wish Upon A Hero user account. You must be over the age of 18.
  2. ONE MEMBER PER IP: Security is our main concern on Wish Upon A Hero. Due to a few people trying to cheat the system we only allow ONE member account per IP address. An IP address is the computer equivalent to a phone number. This process will reduce the number of member trying to "double up" on their wishes. More than 3+ accounts per IP address will be considered suspicious activity and the account will be deactivated. Please see the FAQ section on IP addresses for more information here.
  3. GENIE RULES: You can only have 3 wishes granted every 30 days. Wishes can only be posted 72 hours apart, cannot be edited in the first 24 hours, and will remain posted for at least 7 days. You cannot mark your wish as granted if there is no offer.
  4. ACCEPTANCE TIME: All offers to grant a wish that are not accepted or declined in a 7 day period will be removed automatically.
  5. OFFER TIME: Wishes that have an accepted offer will be automatically marked granted after a 6 month period.
  6. WISH TIME: Un-granted wishes will be automatically removed after a year period. Excludes the first wish made by Wishmaster. View Wish. ;-)
  7. WISH GRANT REMOVAL: A wisher is required to wait 30 days to file a claim that a wish was not granted. Email security@wishuponahero.com with the wish link and the user who did not follow through.
