I WISH for new all-weather wheels for my wheelchair

October 14, 2009

I am a Boston-area student with Mitochondrial Myopathy - a progressive energy metabolism disorder related to muscular dystrophy. My body cannot properly turn food and oxygen into energy for organ function. The disease affects nearly all my organ systems. As a result of muscle breakdown, I've used a wheelchair for 5 years. I do not view myself as "wheelchair-bound" - my wheelchair gives me back the FREEDOM I lost to this disease. HELP GRANT THIS WISH. CLICK HERE.

In memory of an American Hero

October 10, 2009

On October 7th, 2009 Sgt. 1st Class Kenneth W. Westbrook, 41, of Shiprock, N.M., died at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., of wounds suffered Sept. 8 when insurgents attacked his unit in the Ganjigal Valley, Afghanistan, using small arms and indirect fire. He was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

Kenneth is husband to Charlene (Wish Upon A Hero member Tos) and father to 3 boys. Charlene has granted almost 600 wishes and is a hero herself. Charlene writes, "He loved his country and being a soldier but the number one thing he loved most were his three sons. He loved receiving the surprises being sent from our WUAH family and would be so happy to report how he shared the boxes with everyone. I will miss my best friend. I know with prayers and God I can make it through this difficult time, I have to. I need to be strong for our three sons, Ken made me promise to do that. I am so honored to have been married to a career soldier with a courageous soul who fought so hard to the end."

You can make a donation in memory of Sgt Kenneth W. Westbrook to the Wish Upon A Hero Foundation, click here. Please make a note in the special instructions area that the donations are for Sgt Westbrook. All donations will be use to grant a wish for some other military family in need.

Stretch finds a Hero!

October 05, 2009

Wish Ambassador nataliesnana has a soft spot for animals. When she saw a wish for a safety helmet for a blind dog named Stretch, she knew she had to help. "Stretch went suddenly blind a while back. The vet said it was acquired Macular Degeneration and is permanent. If I say "Bump" and she stops and finds her way around the obstacle. But when I am not looking or when I'm not fast enough she will bump into something hard enough to make her yip," exclaimed member myguybones55. "I have found a training helmet, that will teach her where things are. The problem is I can't afford to pay the whole price by myself. I am on a fixed income."  Nataliesnana contacted HandicappedPets.com who donated a helmet to help keep Stretch safe! VIEW WISH.

An 11 year old boy finds their birthday hero

September 29, 2009

When a chronically ill mother posted a birthday wish for her 11 year old son Wish Ambassador, capp3736, decided that she would try to do more than just find this young man card and gift heroes... she wanted a PARTY hero!  "Junior is very compassionate and goes out of his way to help me with everything.Over the last two years we have sold most everything to make ends meet so he has very little...yet never complains.   What he really wants is a little party with a few of his friends at a local entertainment place called Freedom Station.  We used to go all the time years ago before I was diagnosed."  Capp3736 contacted Freedom Station who donate a complete birthday party package for Junior!  Happy Birthday Junior!
